Region History – AIOU Regional Centre Mithi
The Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) Regional Centre Mithi was established in 1988. Spread over an area of nearly 8,000 square feet, the centre is one of AIOU’s well-equipped regional campuses, offering quality facilities and academic support to distance learners.
Establishment and Location
The Regional Centre Mithi is located near Session Court, Mai Bhagi Chowk, Mithi. With its dedicated infrastructure, the centre provides a professional academic environment to cater to students from Tharparkar and nearby areas.
Infrastructure and Facilities
The centre is designed to facilitate distance learners with modern amenities, including:
- Modern computer labs for digital learning and online access
- A spacious lecture hall for seminars and workshops
- Dedicated meeting rooms for counseling and staff sessions
- A well-stocked library for research and study resources
- A student help desk for guidance and query resolution
Administrative Role
The Regional Centre Mithi also administers the Model Study Centre Umerkot, ensuring seamless academic and administrative support across the region. Both centres work together to extend AIOU’s distance learning services effectively.

The Mithi Regional Centre primarily supports students from:
- District Tharparkar
- 07 Tehsils within Tharparkar District
To strengthen its outreach, the centre manages:
- 3 Study Centres across the district
- 162 Registered Tutors for student guidance
- 3 Examination Centres (Mithi, Diplo, and Nagarparkar)

- CMS (Content Management System)
- LMS (Learning Management System)
The staff provides both online and in-person assistance, guiding students in adapting to digital learning platforms. Financial aid is also offered to deserving students, ensuring education remains accessible to all.
