Region History – AIOU Regional Office Rawalpindi

The Regional Office Rawalpindi of Allama Iqbal Open University was established in May 1984, making it one of the earliest regional centers of the university. At the time of its creation, the office provided academic services to students from four districts: Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock.

As the number of students increased, the districts of Jhelum, Chakwal, and Attock were later provided with independent regional campuses. This allowed the Rawalpindi office to focus more effectively on serving the students of Rawalpindi city and surrounding areas.

Shifting of the Office

In its early years, the Rawalpindi Regional Office functioned from rented buildings in the city. To provide students with better facilities, the office was gradually shifted to the Main Campus of AIOU in Islamabad:

  • Initially moved to Block No. 27 (portion of PPU building)
  • Currently located at Block No. 26, AIOU Main Campus, Sector H-8, Islamabad

This relocation brought the office closer to the central hub of the university, with improved access to administrative and academic resources.
